报告摘要:
Experimental investigations of fundamental interactions and searches for signals of new physics at high-energy particle accelerators involve the analysis of extremely complex collision events, characterized by the creation of an immense number of particles and influenced by interactions over multiple distance and time scales. This talk presents an introduction to the theoretical framework, based on factorization and resummation methods in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), through which we are able to obtain reliable and accurate theoretical results for such processes, and thus exploit the full potential of experimental measurements for fundamental physics studies. The talk describes recent advances in this area towards high-precision theoretical predictions driven by “transverse momentum dependent’’ (TMD) formalisms in QCD, and illustrates ongoing applications to precision physics in electroweak gauge boson production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
报告⼈简介:
Francesco Hautmann is a theoretical particle physicist at the University of Oxford. He obtained his doctoral degree at the University of Florence and held research appointments at Cambridge University, Pennsylvania State University, CERN. His main scientific interests focus on applications of quantum field theory to elementary particle physics. His theoretical results have contributed to the quantitative understanding of proton’s structure functions measured at the HERA lepton-hadron collider, and of production cross sections for heavy quarks, jets and heavy bosons at the Fermilab Tevatron and CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
